Pro Kabaddi League 2025: PKL Season 12 Kicks Off in Vizag with Thrilling Clashes

12th season of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) came back in a rocking way on National Sports Day in Visakhapatnam (Vizag). 

Supporters and fans were treated to two high-voltage competitions at the Vishwanadh Sports Club on the opening day, as the Telugu veterans took on southern rivals Tamil Thalaivas, followed by a battle between former champions Bengaluru Bulls and Puneri Paltan.

The first game witnessed the home team Telugu Titans fighting tough but falling short as Tamil Thalaivas edged them 38-35 in a nail-biting finish. In the second match of the evening, Puneri Paltan and Bengaluru Bulls played out an intense 32-32 draw, but Paltan emerged winners in the tiebreaker raids (6-4), securing two crucial points.

This season features 12 teams battling it out across four legs — Vizag, Jaipur, Chennai, and Delhi — before heading into the playoffs. A total of 108 league-stage matches will be played, keeping fans engaged with daily double-headers.

Points Table After Opening Day

After Day 1, Tamil Thalaivas and Puneri Paltan sit at the top with two points each, while Telugu Titans and Bengaluru Bulls are yet to open their accounts. The rest of the teams — Patna Pirates, Dabang Delhi K.C., UP Yoddhas, Haryana Steelers, U Mumba, Jaipur Pink Panthers, Gujarat Giants, and Bengal Warriorz — will enter the fray in the coming days.

The league continues with more action-packed encounters at the same venue. On August 30, Telugu Titans will look to bounce back against UP Yoddhas in the 8 PM game, followed by U Mumba squaring off against Gujarat Giants at 9 PM.

August 31 brings another double-header where Tamil Thalaivas will face U Mumba, and Bengal Warriorz will lock horns with Haryana Steelers. Fans can expect a mix of strong defensive displays and lightning-fast raids as teams aim to establish early momentum.

Road Ahead

From Vizag, the league caravan will move to Jaipur’s SMS Indoor Stadium from September 12, then travel to Chennai’s SDAT Multi-Purpose Indoor Stadium on September 29, before the action culminates in Delhi’s Thyagaraj Indoor Stadium starting October 11. Each leg promises packed stands, vibrant atmospheres, and fierce rivalries as teams fight for playoff spots.

The Stakes

With a growing fan base, PKL has become one of India’s most popular sporting leagues, rivalling cricket in terms of reach and excitement. The likes of Tamil Thalaivas and Puneri Paltan have already laid down markers, but former champions like Patna Pirates, Bengaluru Bulls, and Jaipur Pink Panthers will be eager to reclaim their dominance.
