In a landmark development for Indian sports, the Indian Pickleball Association (IPA)has officially announced the formation of the country’s first-ever national team to compete in the upcoming Pickleball World Cup 2025. This historic move marks a significant milestone in India’s growing involvement in the sport of pickleball, reflecting the nation’s commitment to promoting and developing emerging sports on the global stage.
Historic Selection Trials
The selection process for Team India commenced with a two-day trial held at the IPA Centre of Excellence in Ahmedabad on August 30 and 31, 2025. Over 140 players from across the country, including Delhi, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Assam, Rajasthan, Odisha, Haryana, and Gujarat, participated in these trials, vying for a spot in the national team. The trials were conducted across three categories: Under-16, Open, and 50+ age group, ensuring a diverse representation of talent from various age groups.
Team India: A Diverse Squad
Following the trials, the IPA announced the selection of 14 players who will represent India at the World Cup. The team comprises a mix of seasoned players and promising young talents, showcasing the depth of pickleball talent in the country.
In addition to the players, the team will be accompanied by two coaches and two managers, completing the 18-member contingent that will represent India at the World Cup.
