Indiana fever dominate Chicago Sky in 22-point blowout

The Indiana Fever (18-14) displayed their attacking strength and defensive solidity in a dominant 92-70 victory over the Chicago Sky, with four players securing in double figures.

Kelsey Mitchell led the charge with 26 points, followed by Lexie Hull’s career-best 17 points, Sophie Cunningham’s 16, and Aliyah Boston’s 15.

From start to finish, the Fever hold the pace, capitalising on efficient shooting and strong ball movement.

The opening quarter saw balanced contributions from Indiana’s core players, as Boston and Mitchell each scored eight points, while Natasha Howard added six. Their combined efforts propelled the Fever to a 25-16 lead at the first break.

Indiana maintained their momentum in the second quarter, with Cunningham catching fire and dropping 10 points before halftime. Her scoring spree extended the Fever’s advantage to double digits, sending them into the locker room ahead 48-37.

The third quarter was all about Mitchell, who poured in nine points to push the lead to 20. The Fever’s offensive execution left Chicago struggling to find answers, and their defensive intensity kept the Sky’s top scorers contained.

In the final quarter, Lexie Hull delivered the knockout blow, sinking three shots from beyond the arc to ensure the Fever’s comfortable victory. Indiana’s bench also played a role, keeping up the tempo and limiting any potential comeback attempts from Chicago.

Key Notes from the Win:

  • Kelsey Mitchell’s Scoring Milestone: With her 26-point performance, Mitchell now leads the WNBA in total points this season with 637. This was her eighth game scoring 25 or more points, placing her just one shy of tying Caitlin Clark’s single-season franchise record. The game also marked her 17th 20+ point outing of the season.
  • Aliyah Boston’s Defensive Feat: Boston’s second block of the night moved her past Kelly Schumacher into third place on the Fever’s all-time blocks list. The record-setting block came against her former college teammate, Kamilla Cardoso, giving Boston 132 blocks in only 112 games.
  • Lexie Hull’s Career Highlight: Hull reached her 100th career steal with a takeaway late in the second quarter, accomplishing the feat in her 122nd game. She also posted a new season-high 17 points, showing her impact on both ends of the court.
  • Playmaking Boost: Makayla Timpson dished out a career-high seven assists, while Mitchell set a new season-high with eight assists, proving she’s as dangerous as a playmaker as she is a scorer.

The win further solidifies Indiana’s playoff push, with their balanced scoring, improved ball distribution, and suffocating defense standing out as key strengths.
